  1. What this means to me is that unprocessed pain sticks around. I discovered this when I discovered the benefits of stretching after a long run. At a certain point in my life I was always sore for a few days after a run. I came to believe that since I had reached a certain age I just needed to walk around sore for the rest of my life. I never stretched because to me it was too painful. After taking up yoga as a stress coping tool I noticed a side effect. My constant dull soreness disappeared. The pain in during the yoga was stronger but much shorter in duration. What I came to realize was that I could ignore the pain and it would constantly be a part of my life or I could lean into it and let it go. Either way I was going to feel the pain but by dealing with it head on I could actully cure it vs burying my head in the sand.

I discovered the same is true for emotional pain. A great way to deal with emotional pain can be journaling. By processing your thoughts and pain you can deal with them and let them go. If you ignore them they don’t go anywhere. You can conceal them but eventually they will rise to the surface again.

To me this quote rings very true. The best way to cure your pain is not to put a mask on it. To cure your pain you can’t be afraid of it. You need to look it straight in the eye and show it that you are stronger than it is.
