Exercise: Meditate on this question: In what ways is your life harder when you engage in behaviors that hurt your brain?
My life is definitely harder when I don’t take care of my brain.
When I don’t get enough rest, am impatient, and keep my mind too busy I pay for it. Typically I’ll have a persistent low level headaches that make me irritable. A better description might actually be a migraine. When I have these headaches it is hard to focus and harder to learn. My memory and efficiency suffers. I end up taking 2-3 times as long to accomplish tasks because I’m constantly going back to correct my work.
Additionally when I introduce too many toxins to my brain I don’t sleep well. I may spend a lot of time in my bed but since tracking my sleep using Whoop there is not doubt about the fact I don’t get quality sleep if I have even one drink. When I don’t sleep well I frown a lot, and am not fun to be around. Even the simplest tasks can seem like I’m setting out to climb a mountain.
I’m much more fun, friendly, easy going, efficient, and outgoing when I take care of my brain. I’ve been practicing the lessons in this book for about 8 months now. Since cleaning up my diet I almost never get a migraine anymore. If I do it is so rare that I actually can take the time to rest instead of trying to push through it like I used to do daily.
