Synopsis
about the “Change You Brain Everyday” Blog
Will had a violent father and talked him into getting his brain scanned. The scan revealed low blood flow in the areas consistent with the symptoms of having a violent temper. It turns out that Will’s father had a serious head trauma when he was 20 years old that was the cause of the low blood flow. The brain injury ultimately effected Will’s fathers personality. With treatment his symptoms improved. Will was able to see his father in a new light when he realized severely his personality was effected by the brain injury. He was able to forgive his fault when he realized the bad behavior essentially an undiagnosed disease.
Exercise: Is there anyone in your life whos behavior has been very troublesome and who has hurt you emotionally or physically? Is it possible that brain dysfunction may be present?
One hundred percent. The person that I’m thinking of has for sure hurt me and has some brain dysfunction. This person has lead a stressful like and stress wreaks havoc on the brain. Especially chronic stress which is present with this person.
The problem is this person refuses to admit that they have any brain dysfunction. There is no way to bring it up to them without them taking it personally. I told them that I was reading listening to this very book and it was helping me out and I thought they could benefit from it. Shockingly when I brought it up this way they said they would listen to it. I gifted them the book and they started it, but there is no way they made it to chapter 5.
There brain is so unable to focus that they had to ask me how much they were supposed to listen to at a time. I take back what I said earlier. Thinking back I think they did make it to chapter 5, but only because the first time they listened to it they didn’t know where to stop. That shows you what they are working with. How could you not figure out where to stop! The chapters are clear labeled Day 1, Day 2, Day 3… At the end of each chapter there is an exercise they clearly weren’t doing.
I know they did not stick with listening to the book because I asked them about it several times and they said they were too busy. Too busy to listen to 1 2 minute chapter a day. Another symptom of a sub optimal brain. But if you are not delicate in how you approach this subject there will be fireworks. You got it. Unreasonable anger is another symptom.
Its a catch 22. You want to blame them for not seeking help for there brain, but it is the very dysfunctional brain that is telling them that they don’t need the help. So can you blame them?
