about the “Change You Brain Everyday” Blog
Free will is dependent on brain health. The better your brain health, the more agency you have over your decisions. Conversely the more brain issues you have the less agency you have over your decisions.
Exercise: Think of three or four peoplein your life whom you judge harshly. Is it possible that it least one of them has something going on with his or her brain that effects their behavior.
Without a doubt 100% yes. I had an argument with one of these people just today. This person has had a lot of trauma in their life and has generalized anxiety but they refuse to do anything to help themselves. The most the will do is take a pill from a doctor but they will not put any any work themselves. I even bought this book for them back in November and would be shocked if they made it to Day 3. Its like they are unable to exercise free will.
This person is like a broken record and constantly brings up topics that they know push my buttons. They have this blanket justification as to why they are allowed to bring them up. I’ve explicitly told this person not to ever bring up this topic again but they can’t help themselves. They know it pushes my buttons but they can’t stop themselves. If its not this topic its another topic that it off limits. The reason that these topics become off limits is because of what I mentioned before about the broken record. If they think I need to change something there is no agreeing to disagree.
They will brow beat me with the topic until I lose my cool. It’s like they have no free will to avoid the argument. In all fairness this argument was a stain on my free will. I try not to be reactive. I put in the work and am slow to anger with just about everyone. With this person they brought up the topic for the umpteenth time and I lost control. I reacted angrily instead of calmly saying that we already talked about how this topic is off limits. They tested me today and I failed, but at least I can admit it and learn from it.
